Starts July 28, 2025 in Toms River
The Ocean County Career Center is excited to share an upcoming training opportunity from the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR).
Representing New Jersey’s $43 billion auto retail industry, where more than 20,000 vehicles are serviced daily, NJ CAR is responding to the demand for skilled technicians through its Technical Advancement Program (TAP) — a nonprofit initiative offering free, hands-on automotive training.
What the Program Includes
- Minimal classroom time, maximum practical experience
- 18 weeks of hands-on training and mentorship
- Monday to Thursday, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Paid apprenticeship with a local dealership in Toms River at $18–$19/hour
Addressing a Statewide Technician Shortage
To tackle the growing shortage of qualified technicians, NJ CAR’s TAP bootcamp offers an 18-week training program focused on maintenance and light repair, equipping participants with the foundational skills needed for entry-level positions at local dealerships. This is an excellent path for individuals who:
- Can’t afford traditional technical school
- Are looking for alternatives to college
- Need to quickly enter the workforce with practical, job-ready skills
Added Benefits (Pending PACE Grant Approval)
NJ CAR is working to secure PACE grant support, which would provide each trainee with:
- A $225 weekly stipend
- A fully stocked toolbox
While these benefits are not guaranteed yet, training will still be free regardless of grant status. Final confirmation is expected by the end of the month.
Limited Spots Available
The next class begins on July 28, 2025, and as of May 8, there are only three spots remaining.
