Sea Change, Ocean County’s Recovery Community Organization and Harm Reduction Center, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Overdose Prevention & Response Innovation Deep Canvassers to engage with residents in Little Egg Harbor Township on harm reduction, addiction stigma, and overdose prevention.
This role is part of a partnership with the New Jersey Resource Project (NJRP) to bring lifesaving education and harm reduction supplies directly to the community.
About the Role
Canvassers will conduct door-to-door outreach to educate residents on overdose prevention, distribute naloxone, and engage in meaningful conversations about reducing the stigma surrounding addiction. This position requires strong communication skills, an open-minded approach, and a willingness to connect with individuals in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct door-to-door canvassing in Southern Ocean County to distribute naloxone and provide harm reduction education.
- Engage in deep listening and personal storytelling to build trust and understanding around addiction recovery.
- Attend a three-day deep canvass & harm reduction training in March (exact dates to be announced).
- Work 16 hours per week, participating in two to four canvasses per week, each requiring 2-3 hours on foot in outdoor settings.
- Maintain accurate tracking sheets to document outreach efforts.
- Participate in daily pre-canvass launches, regular training, and debriefs to refine canvassing strategies.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 or older.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable car for travel within Southern Ocean County.
- Ability to connect with diverse community members and organizations.
- Strong active listening and storytelling skills to engage in empathy-driven conversations.
- Comfortable working outdoors, standing and walking for extended periods.
- Must have access to a phone, computer, and internet.
- Familiarity with Zoom, Google Workspace, Impactive, and VAN is helpful but not required.
