The Center collaborates closely with workforce partners, instructors, and community agencies to reduce barriers and connect students with meaningful local opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Student Advising and Case Management
Provide comprehensive advising services to adult students seeking high school equivalency or basic skills improvement. Support students with class placement, goal setting, career pathway exploration, and post-secondary planning. Offer consistent guidance from intake through program completion.
Student Support and Retention
Deliver holistic advising that addresses academic, career, and personal barriers to learning. Connect students to campus-based and community resources across Ocean County, including childcare assistance, transportation support, employment services, and life skills resources. Participate in retention strategies designed to keep students engaged and progressing.
Data, Records, and Compliance
Maintain accurate and confidential student records and case files in alignment with College policies and state and federal guidelines. Collect, input, track, and analyze literacy and program data required by the College and the New Jersey Department of Labor. Prepare recruitment, retention, and progress reports as required.
Program and Staff Collaboration
Assist with student orientation sessions for Adult Education and Basic Skills programs. Work collaboratively with instructors to monitor student progress and assessment outcomes. Participate in internal audits, semester closeout activities, and professional development sessions to stay current with policy and program updates.
Community Coordination
Maintain communication with local human service agencies and workforce partners. Refer students to appropriate community resources throughout Ocean County that support education, training, and employment readiness.
Schedule Expectations
This role requires flexibility, including evening and weekend hours, to meet the needs of adult learners and program schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least two years of directly related experience in student services, teaching, or counseling within an educational setting
- Strong interpersonal and student service skills
- Experience leading projects or supporting the supervision of others
- Background in developing and delivering workshops or presentations for adult learners, both in-person and virtual
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience working with databases
- Availability for a flexible work schedule that includes evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising adult education, ESL, or literacy students
- Bilingual Spanish language skills
- Familiarity with systems such as Elevate, LACES, Colleague, or Canvas
