National Apprenticeship Week is observed April 26 through May 2, 2026. In recognition of that, a free community event has been organized for Thursday, April 30. It is open to high school and middle school students, parents, recent graduates, and job seekers across New Jersey, including residents from Ocean County and Monmouth County.

The event is called Pathways to the Future. It will be held at the Raritan Valley Community College Conference Center on Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ 08876.

What the Pathways to the Future Event Covers

The event is presented by the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board Youth Committee. It is designed to connect attendees with information about registered apprenticeships and other structured career pathways.

Registration and a light meal are offered starting at 5:30 p.m. Program presentations are scheduled from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. Networking and learning opportunities follow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Businesses, union organizations, school programs, service providers, and government agencies are among the confirmed exhibitors. Time has also been set aside for workforce members and community leaders to share career success stories directly with attendees.

There is no cost to attend. Walk-ins are welcome.

Why Apprenticeships Are Worth Exploring

An apprenticeship is a structured training arrangement. Participants are paid while learning a trade or profession under the guidance of an experienced professional. Upon completion, a nationally recognized credential is typically earned.

For students in Toms River, Brick, Lakewood, and surrounding Ocean County communities, apprenticeships can represent a practical alternative to a traditional four-year degree. Many programs are available in healthcare, construction, manufacturing, technology, and the skilled trades.

Notably, apprenticeships tend to carry little to no student debt. Wages are earned throughout the training period. Financial independence is reached sooner as a result.

Apprenticeship Options Are Available Closer to Home

New Jersey maintains an active apprenticeship registry through the state Department of Labor. Programs are available across a range of industries and skill levels. For local residents, the path to enrollment often starts with understanding what is available and what the requirements are.

The Youth Programs page at Ocean County Career Center outlines apprenticeship participation as one of several services offered to young adults between the ages of 16 and 24. Guidance is provided through every stage, from initial exploration to active enrollment.

Who Should Consider Attending on April 30

This event is a fit for a wide range of people. Middle and high school students who are starting to think about their futures can benefit from speaking directly with exhibitors. Parents who want to understand their options beyond college are also encouraged to attend.

Recent graduates who are still deciding on a direction will find registered apprenticeship information particularly relevant. Additionally, job seekers who are looking to change fields or build new credentials may find useful contacts among the exhibitors.

For Ocean County residents, the drive to Branchburg is manageable. The event runs on a weeknight and is structured to wrap up by 7:30 p.m.
